Yippee, yippee!  Yay, yay!  It's another Before & After Friday!
Did I just rhyme there?   I think I rhymed.  Whatever.
It's Friday!

Yard sales are great venues at which to find
occasional chairs that need an update.

A thrift shop bread box was given a European flavor:

The fabric on this 'before' sofa isn't terrible:
But it really is nicer 'after':

We've all seen similar china cabinets:
After a new coat of paint it looks so different:
Nice!

This sofa was in such sad condition:
Now it's Happy!  Happy!  Happy!

This Mid-Century Modern chair was well worn:

Now it's ready for many more years of use.

The fabric on this sofa is so overwhelming that you
don't even notice the beautiful woodwork on the arms:

Made you look at the arms, didn't I?!

As professional as the upholstery was on
the chair before, I prefer the updated after:

When you see the after picture you're going to say, "No way!"
Painted black, it's so sophisticated now:
What's truly unbelievable is that this dresser
was purchased for $12 at a Goodwill Store.

Are you a fan of this 1950's dresser in its original state?
A paint job, faux bamboo trim and new hardware
turned the dresser into a 'new' classic:

I'm not a Modern French Provincial purist:

And that's why I love this makeover.

Check out this transformation:

Simply stunning.

I call it The Ugly Duckling Syndrome!

Before           After

Who says you can't teach an old dog a new trick?

Click here for the step-by-step tutorial
on how this dresser was re-made.

A little cabinet desk needed some serious help:
Before        After
Sweet salvage!

I won't say that the before coffee table was boring:
But it sure is a lot more interesting now.

While we're on the subject of coffee tables:
The laminate top was removed and the base was painted:

Maybe you already have a coffee table you like but want a fresh look:
It's SO easy - tape off a harlequin pattern
and simple 'sand' with steel wool:
If you have some free time on your hands this weekend
check out local estate and yard sales in your area.  You might
just find a DIY project of your own.  Happy shopping!

  1. I just love these makeover pictures! Not too long ago we scored a mid century chair that had a "lovely" orange vinyl on it. My husband sanded the wood and we are in the process of recovering it now. The chair was originally priced $5 but we got it on a half price day for $2.50 plus tax. Pretty amazing : )
