For every time there is a season.
For every person there is a style.

Unfortunately, the Realtor who listed this property can't seem to find
the one earthly inhabitant whose style this house represents.

In an historic suburb of Minneapolis, MN, there is a very unusual house for sale.
In fact, I would go so far as to state it's a one-in-6-billion listing.  (Because,
of the 6 billion people on this planet, not one seems interested in buying it.)

Walk with me, people, as we explore a truly unique concept in creative living.

The gardens are lovely and flourishing with local greenery.

As we step up on the enchanting front porch we admire the beauty of the
landscape under the protective shade of a majestic ancient oak tree.
This is pretty much where the traditional aspects
of the house end and the bizarre begin.

We enter the front parlor and - voile - we're
transported into a Grimms Fairy Tale:

To the right, off of the foyer, is located a solarium:

When was the last time you knew anyone
who had a solarium in their house?
Is that Hickory-Dickory-Dock's clock painted over the wood burning stove?

A turn to the left and we're in the kitchen:

 Interesting floor covering combination:

The cabinets are covered in river rock.  You'd have to
keep a tube of Super Glue on hand for emergency repairs.
Yes, that is a tiled refrigerator with a city scene painted around it.

Another turn and we're standing in the dining room:

I guess the owner thought that the faux brick work needed faux cracks.

Beautiful copper ceiling tiles are an unexpected  surprise:

There's actually a feature of the house I
love - two staircases to the top floor!

Let's gather our courage and take a look upstairs.

At the top of the front landing we find a large multi-purpose family room:

To be fair, that's a pretty awesome hexagonal wood ceiling.

Off the family room is a hallway to the master bedroom and bath:

It's not every day you see a fabric ceiling.

A quick peek into the bathroom:
There are no words. . . . . truly, no adequate adjectives
in the English language to describe this bathroom.
I'm gonna' go with Duck Dynasty Meets Fred Flintstone.

Here's a view of the back stairs:
Just having a little trouble adjusting to the leopard skin print. . . . . what
am I saying?!  I should be having trouble adjusting to the entire house.

Are you feeling the Hansel and Gretel vibe or is it just me?
Stay on the trail and drop bread crumbs.  You'll be fine.

Leaving the second bedroom/study, we find
ourselves back at the main landing:

Oh, did I tell you there is a garage?  You access it through a door
under the back stairs and down a - what?! -  third staircase:

I point it out because my favorite novelty
of the entire house pertains to the garage:
a mural of a wolf painted on the garage door!

You've probably been asking yourself, "What
would an earthly prize like this be worth?"

Only $149,000!

That's right - for less than the price of a Manhattan designated
parking spot you can own this masterpiece.

IF I were a young, single hipster living in the Twin Cities and
IF I were looking for a unique and (compared to everything else
on the market) inexpensive housing experience I might just actually
make an offer on this one-in-6-billion house.

You have to admit it would be a blast to entertain in this house.

  1. I have never seen anything like this in my life, I actually can not find words to describe it. I won't be moving anytime soon.

  2. This is just amazing.
I really love that with all the fairy tale design there is one sad towel hanging on the oven to bring us down to reality.
To claustrophobic for me but what a hoot !

    cheers, parsnip

  3. Oh. My. GOODNESS. Must be an artist lived there. That wolf on the door takes the cake! Wow wow wowsers. I like all the painted trees. Don't know if I'd want to live there, though. Probably one of the most unique houses I've ever seen in my life. Thanks for sharing. Susan

  4. Had to be an artist who lived there but it's just far too busy for me. No thanks. I do like the garage door though.

  5. My husband and I lived a couple doors down from her a few years ago. She is a local artist and very unique. One day we were walking by and stopped to look at the garage and the gardens when she came over to us and invited to see inside. It was amazing and hard to keep the shocked look off our faces, especially in the rock covered kitchen. She understood that her house wasn't for most (all?) people but she loved it and was always so nice and welcoming to anyone who wanted to see inside. We stopped and chatted with her many evenings after that and when we moved I missed Lauri and her house.

  6. That is bizarre! So much time and energy - wonder what they're decorating (is that the word I want?) now?

  8. Wow! I'd love to meet the people who built such a quirky house. I bet Chip and Joanna of the show Fixer Upper could make it fabulous.
