There is little in the architecture of a city that
is more beautifully designed than a tree.
-- Jaime Lerner --

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that many in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
-- Joyce Kilmer, 1913

Consider giving live Christmas trees as gifts early this holiday
season.  Then, after the first of the year, help the recipient plant it.
Every time they look at the tree they'll think of you.

  1. Fun post.
    I have thought about a live tree but not sure where I would plant it. Not quite desert friendly.
    This year I am designing a wooden tree. But son still wants a green tree. I usually get a small one.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. We all want to be environmentally friendly but we've got to be practical, too. The wooden tree sounds like fun and could turn into an annual tradition. One year BC (before children) I decorated a ficus tree for Christmas. It was cute!

  2. You had to see it to believe it amazing post. A lovely thought if everyone had real trees and planted them, the local garden centre has a Santa who gives out small trees as gifts.

    1. That's an awesome idea. I'm going to run that by our local garden shop for next year. There are even companies who rent live trees to you for Christmas then pick them up after the holidays. Poor trees! I'll bet they're exhausted after a few years of that!
