Antique and vintage illustrated children's text books have been popular for many years. Framed, the pages make beautiful decorating accessories. The Alphabet of Old Friends, right, was illustrated by Walter Crane in 1874. It's one of the most sought after publications by antique book collectors.
One of the most popular illustrators of the Victorian and Edwardian periods, Walter Crane's work is quite distinctive and easily recognizable. Story books were some of his favorite subjects.

Crane's Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Framed pages from antique and vintage children's books are especially
charming when hung in a nursery. They make great baby gifts, too.
So keep your eyes open for collectible books at estate sales, flea markets and auctions. They're out there just waiting to be discovered.
What a charming and funny blog you have, I feel as though I have made a bit of a discovery. Thank you for visiting my blog too.

Just gorgeous illustrations. The figures are almost preRaphaelite - especially Goldilocks. Thank you x Jane
ReplyDeleteDelightful. Beautiful illustrations I would just love to own them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of Walter Crane and similar artists. I always keep my eye out for illustrated books from the early 1900s.
ReplyDeleteI could only work out some of the characters to go with the alphabet from the illustrations, haha. But the illustrations are lovely.
