March 1st - Snow falls in Florida!

Actually, snow did fall in Florida 32 years ago today so we'd better not discount Winter just yet.  While many people associate the Sunshine State with 'beachy' decor, pastels and palm prints, decorators also satisfy pallets with a taste for the traditional - antiques, brass and velvet.

Before Spring makes its formal debut, let's take a look at several designs that include velvet's soft, sensual texture.

 Notice the beach print over
the Mid-Century chair?!
(Is it just me or does the side table
'art' remind you of a kidney stone?)

Christie's is offering this antique
Gustave Serrurier-Bovy (1858-1910)
Mock-Velvet Upholstered
Elm Settee,
Circa 1905, with brass sabots for an
estimated purchase price of $5,000 - $8,000.

Velvet studded accent pillows and lush velvet grommet
panels are reasonably available online at West Elm.

Silk mohair, cotton, plush, crushed, classic or
contemporary - whatever your preference, velvet
adds a touch of sophistication to any decor.

Happy March 1st!
