25th Anniversary Photo Prop Wood Hand Painted Sign, Great Gift, Perfect for your Pictures. $24.95, via Etsy.
Sorry, sorry, sorry for being absent yesterday but it was our 25th Anniversary so I took a blog day off. Hubby and I spent a wonderful day together and topped it off with a delicious dinner at a new Japanese restaurant.

Today I have some amazing photos of last weekend's
Steampunk Show in Mt. Dora, Fl, to share with you.  My bff
Lisa and her Jim joined Bob and me on an antique adventure like no other.

For those of you who are a bit confused by the Steampunk
movement, envision Jules Verne meets Victorian Gothic.

At first I couldn't figure out why a stuffed toy octopus was displayed
until I put the connection together between Jules Verne and the octopus.

Refresher:  Jules Verne was the 19th Century author who
penned Voyage to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand
Leagues Under the Sea, and Around the World In Eighty Days

I wanted to take home this vintage industrial cart.

The skeletal remains of two antique wood-framed airplanes were just waiting
for the right customer to come along and restore them to their former glory.

Tell me - who can resist a $5 table?!

Any Steampunk show is an occasion to break out period costumes:

This gentleman had a working miniature cross bow strapped to his arm:

How cool are these parents?

Staples of any Steampunk costume are a pair
of tinted antique pince-nez and goggles:

And corsets are a must for lady's attire:

A Steampunk costume is not complete without some type of
Mad Hatter's hat These were adorned with bits and pieces of odds
and ends - spent gun shells, dominoes, old coins, and antique trinkets.

Without a doubt one of the most creative artists at
the show was Sharon Kay Derflinger of Tampa.

We could have stood for hours admiring her creations,
identifying the tidbits that comprised her pieces.

Steampunk is all about repurposing:

I love the bird's turban - the bottom of a vintage light bulb!

Melissa Menzer of Tampa creates unique bird and animal
sculptures that are composed of, well, just about anything:

Tom Galvin constructed a full scale replica of The Time Machine.  I
wanted to sit in it and go back in time to interview Jane Austen!

For R.J. Foster of Harriman, Tennessee, the
Steampunk movement is serious business:

A devoted fan of Jules Verne, R.J. creates miniature
time machines that have all of the bells and whistles:

Sadly, our day came to a close and we had to bid adieu to the Steampunk Show.
But BFF Lisa gave me an early birthday present - my own little Steampunk dog:

I'm going to call him Rusty!

And, lastly, if Winnebago made Steampunk RVs:

    1. He's adorable, isn't he? Archie and Boswell are giving him a pretty wide berth - they don't know quite what to make of Rusty. He's definitely the centerpiece of my Steampunk collection!

    1. Steampunk is absolutely one of the most creative movements to come along. One friend referred to it as "Good Gothic" which is true - everyone in costumes loved posing and showing off their trinkets and were SO nice. Be sure to go to an exhibit if the group in your area puts one on. It's so much fun.

  5. I love this stuff, but do not have any of it at all. It is so fun. I have never seen anyone with this stuff around here and those booth and dealers are just awesome.

    1. It's like one of those Underground Movements you hear about except wholesome fun. I read Jules Verne's bestsellers as a kid but never imagined that he would be so influential in the antique world. If a Steampunk show comes near you, be sure and go. It was a fun day.

    1. Wanda, it was Repurposing Heaven! We saw some of the most unique, clever sculptures and the costumes were hilarious. If a Steampunk Show is exhibited near you, be sure and go.

  7. Happy Anniversary! What a great way to celebrate! I have been wondering what exactly 'Steampunk' style is and you have defined it well here. Looks like a fun show - the costumes are great - and love the time machines. Your new little dog, Rusty, is perfect for your collection. Love how expressive that little face is! Thanks for sharing :) xo Karen

    1. Thank you so much. It was a very special day for us. And I've fallen in love with Rusty - he's the perfect pet! (I'm afraid Archie and Boswell are jealous.)

  9. I love Steampunk - not enough to decorate with it, but enough that I love looking at all the cool stuff people do.

I hope your anniversary was lovely.

  10. I'm amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that?s equally educative and amusing, and without
a doubt, you've hit the nail on the head. The issue is something not enough men and
women are speaking intelligently about. I'm very happy I came across this in my
    hunt for something concerning this.
