Happy July 1st!

I'm so happy for those of you who have birthdays this month.  Your birthstone is the luscious ruby and, according to American Gem Society, rubies arouse the senses, stir the imagination, and guarantee health, wisdom, wealth and success in love.   That's a lot to expect from one little gemstone!

I've always been a little intimidated by ruby red decor.  It's so definite and assertive.

The Admiral's Room in Castle Howard located in Yorkshire, England,
is decorated in the bold colors and stripes of the Regency style.

What's that?  You don't have a castle?
Well, these normal rooms look lovely in red:

If you've never experimented with red in your home maybe it
would be best to start with a few crimson colored accent pieces.

Although red conveys a sense of sophistication,
it completely 'country-fies' a kitchen:

Whether you need a little sophistication in your
home or a little country, give red a chance.

  1. The ruby is also the gem for the 40th wedding anniversary!

Red is suggested as a good color for the dining room walls. Not my choice, and that won't be the case here.:-)

    1. I've read that red is also a good color for a bedroom but I prefer something calm like light melon green or beiges. Boring but restful! -- Jan

  2. I like red, but sometimes it can be too much. The hall and stairs in our last house was red, it seemed to work well. I did see a red kitchen in a house I was looking at recently, and it was overwhelming.

    1. For me red is one of those colors that is best used sparingly - accent pillows, etc. It's funny - I don't have anything red in my closet. Guess I'm destined to be a beige-y person forever! -- Jan

  3. What wonderful examples of RED.
Now I am a Cancer baby...a Ruby baby....the sign of the crab! My birthday is July 10th and RED is my color. Always has been from the time I can remember.
In my business I always have to have at least one thing of Red in the design.
    Blessings,
    Karen

  4. I did receive a ruby necklace from my sweet hubby on our 40th last year! Oh, I do love red, but just a touch. I love the red in the bedrooms and the kitchens. I have a barn red front door and floor in my house. Lovely photos. xo
