The latest decorating craze has been certifiably recognized by Crate & Barrel

as

Modern Farmhouse

Their recent catalog spread looks more
like a Sophisticated NYC Penthouse!

These are my ideas of a Modern Farmhouse:

Modern, country, primitive - whatever style you choose to call it - farmhouse decor should be warm, inviting, and cozy no matter how large or small it is.

    1. Lighting is such an important element in setting the tone of whatever style you choose. A couple of those C&B fixtures looked more like modern art. Maybe the editors and stylists at the magazine need to take a road trip to see what America considers to be Modern Farmhouse!

  2. You must have the most wonderful, dreamy home, how I envy you....I have a lot, but I'm in an apt, very busy area, constant traffic, i find it hard to get use to it, after renting a two level house for 14 years, then the landlord sold the lot to his sister for 10,000 and she told me to get out. In the process, I lost my sweetest, most loving cat, so I love looking at your posts gives me ideas on how to make this apt look a little more like a home...thank you

    1. I'm so very sorry about your cat. Moving has such a profound impact on animal ownership especially if they can't make the move with you. Thanks for liking the ideas that I post. Usually there's something here each week to suit everyone's tastes. I don't know if you've checked www.ApartmentTherapy.com but it's an amazing site with terrific ideas. Let me know what you think about the site.

    1. Yep, one muddy Springer Spaniel leaps on that white sofa and it'd find itself on top of the wood pile. Instead of Modern Farmhouse I think the editor should have titled the issue Sophisticated Farmhouse. Modern Farmhouse means to me that it has indoor plumbing!

  4. C&B obviously has no idea what a farmhouse really looks like!

    1. Do you think the editor and staff have even been out of the city limits?! The people who prefer a sophisticated farmhouse probably never lived in a farmhouse. They're suppose to be welcoming, warm, cozy, and comfortable. Maybe the catalog is leaning toward European Modern Farmhouses which are more structured and sophisticated.

  5. Beautiful photos! Some are kind of the Craftsman Style too, which I love! Especially the smaller window panes and the build in shelves...love them!!!

  6. BTW...I adore Archie and Boswell!!! So adorable! (and that was suppose to be 'built' in shelves.
