November 1, 2013

November, we're so glad to see you!

How 'bout we start the month out with some inspiring Before & After
projects?  And, by projects, I mean desk transformations.

From a vanity to a desk:
And how clever to use an antique piano stool in place of a chair.

Who would have thought that a bare stripped-down computer
desk could be so lovely?  Love the 'D' peeping out from below.

I'm going to show you this next project in stages:

#1 - the inspiration

#2 - what he had to work with:

#3  The results:
Great desk and work space!

This 'school marm' desk was given a vintage treatment:
I especially like that they refurbished the chair to match the desk.

Nate and Taylor are a darling military couple who own Dear Olympia,
a painted furniture revival business in Oahu, Hawaii.  Here is just
one example of their talented transformations:

Most of you know that I'm ga-ga over MidCentury Modern and
rarely do I like to see a vintage piece 'contemporary-ized' but,
these next two projects are both thumbs up:
Before                                                                   After

Who would have thought that this Queen Anne desk could be improved?

What do you think about this Harlequin treatment:
Before

After
It's definitely different - I like it!

It's hard to envision that a simple desk could be
transformed into such a charming piece:
Before

After
Uncomplicated and so elegant!

Who says you have to start with a damaged old desk?  The one,
below, came from ikea and was perfectly functional if a bit plain:

A simple spray paint treatment later and it's sophisticated and console-worthy.

Today's last project is truly ingenious.  See if you
can spot the surprise element in the 'after' photo:

The surprise element?  Laminate flooring for the desk top!
Pure genius!  Visit Erin at How to Nest for Less and take a look
at the tutorial for this project.  I'm envious of her amazing office, aren't you?

Sadly, we bid adieu to October . . . . .

but, enjoy your first weekend of November!

  1. Good inspiration - I have one of those 'school marm' desks I need to refinish. Love those tree shots :) xo

  2. Oh, the wonders of paint.

The desk with the typewriter is amazing. It makes me sorry that I ever got rid of some of the old pieces of furniture when we downsized.
